Being Supportive

Supportive acts and encouraging statements are always good gestures that might help someone else to feel better.  Just the other day Ross hit his forehead with his hand and said I forgot all about the three o’clock meeting.  Liz is going to kill me.  I looked at him and being supportive, “I said can see why you might feel bad” it can really be upsetting when something supportiveimportant slip your mind.”  At the same time, Marla burst into the house and said Dad I had an accident with the car.  No one is hurt, but I bashed the hell out of the fender and I feel sick about it. Her father, being supportive replied “you said no one was hurt, that’s  good.  The car can always be fixed.  The important thing is that no one was hurt.”

We say something that soothes, reduces tension or pacifies when we want to be supportive of what a person has said or done.  Being supportive is intended to help the other person feel better about himself or about what he has said or done.  However, being supportive does not mean lying to a friend or telling him only what they want to hear.  It does mean being honest and putting forth a sincere effort to point out the good in the person, their thoughts or his actions.  When I am place in a position to make a support statement, I listen carefully to the message being sent and then reply in a manner that reinforces the person’s right to make such a statement.  This way, I make them feel good and at the same time I’ve done my good deed by being supportive.

Thank you for taking the time to write with awareness. Once In A While I look at a page and question whether they even proofread it.Fantastic work with this article.
